Istana Batu, popularly known as the Royal Museum or Castle Rock is situated in the heart of Kota Bharu, Kelantan, Malaysia. The castle was built in 1939 during the reign of Sultan Ismail 1, son of Sultan Muhammad Ke 1V.
It was a wedding gift by Sultan Ismail 1 to his nephew Sultan Yahya Petra and later went to Sultan Ibrahim Petra and since that moment it served as the abode of the royal family. The conversion of the palace to a museum was with the consent of Sultan Ibrahim Petra.
A visit to the museum gives an insight into the history and lifestyle of the royal family. On display are photographs of the royal family, costumes and priceless artefacts such as beautiful crystals, silver and brass ware and antique furniture. Also, known as the brick palace, the blue and white colour of the castle looks magnificent with the surroundings.
